PLAY OUR WAY
ALL FEMALE PROGRAM

Hoops 4 Health are running a program called 'Play Our Way' and its promoting female participation in physical activity for all ages.

Benefits of Physical Activity for Females
1. Physical Health – Regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. It also strengthens bones, reducing the likelihood of osteoporosis.
2. Mental Well-being – Exercise releases endorphins, which improve mood and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
3. Confidence and Empowerment – Sports and fitness activities help build self-esteem, leadership skills, and a sense of achievement.
4. Social Connection – Group activities foster friendships, teamwork, and a sense of belonging, which is especially valuable for young girls and women.
5. Cultural Strengthening – For First Nations women, participation in physical activities like sport can reinforce identity, connection to Country, and healing through movement.
Barriers to Female Participation
• Lack of Safe Spaces – Many women and girls feel uncomfortable in male-dominated spaces.
• Cultural and Social Expectations – Some communities still prioritize male participation in sports, discouraging female involvement.
• Limited Access – Remote communities often have fewer facilities and programs for women.
Ways to Encourage More Female Participation
1. Create Female-Only Sessions – Safe spaces allow women to participate comfortably and confidently.
2. Showcase Female Role Models – Having female coaches, mentors, and athletes inspires younger generations.
3. Community-Led Initiatives – Engaging local female leaders to advocate for active lifestyles strengthens long-term impact.
